Leslie Bevan named Portland YWCA Executive Director

After undergoing a thoughtful and extensive search, the YWCA Board of Directors is pleased to share that they have selected Dr. Leslie Bevan as their new Executive Director. She will start on November 2.

Leslie is passionate about the work of the YWCA. She brings to us her experience as manager of Mercy Corps Northwest's Women's Business Center, a program that helps increase personal and financial empowerment of low-income women. She has a PhD in Human Physiology and has served as the Associate Dean and Director of Research Development for the School of Nursing at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Bevan was also the Executive Director of Living Yoga, a non-profit organization that brings yoga into prisons and public drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers as a tool for personal change.

"During our extensive search process the board, staff and search committee were consistently impressed with Leslie's relevant work experience and demonstrated passion and commitment to the YWCA's mission," said YWCA Board of Directors President Shay LaBray. "This is an exciting time for the YWCA and we're pleased to bring on board someone of her caliber in qualification and vision for the organization. We're confident that Leslie's leadership brings new opportunities that will provide energy and focus around our new initiative regarding the economic advancement of women and enable the organization to continue to make a meaningful difference in our community."

"I am so impressed with the talent and commitment of the YWCA staff and Board members," said Bevan. "The YWCA is poised for a new level of community engagement that will bring together women with diverse backgrounds and experiences to support and empower each other. This will be one of our greatest assets as we operationalize the new vision for economic advancement of women and bring new energy to the eliminating racism aspect of our mission. This overall vision is exceedingly relevant in today's world and in our city. I am honored and delighted to be a part of the future of the Portland YWCA."

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Leslie as she steps in to lead during an exciting time for the YWCA of Greater Portland.
