YWCA International Association

From inside the Congo, to Shanghai’s inner city, to America’s suburbs, the YWCA has improved more women’s lives than any other multicultural women’s organization in the world. The YWCA is also the oldest organization of its kind with more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2 million members in 300 local United States associations.

Just as pervasive as our numbers, the YWCA mission knows no boundaries. Across the globe, the YWCA strives to eliminate racism and empower women. Towards that end, we provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women's rights and civil rights in Congress.

Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for job training and career counseling. They come for childcare. They come for health and fitness or for help to stay in their own homes as they age gracefully. They come for a variety of reasons. But they come. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.

YWCA associations are divided by regions nationwide and act as independent entities unto themselves. This enables our associations to pool resources, provide additional services for their clients and create programming that is relevant to each local community. Working together this way, we can combine our voices for change at the national and local levels.
